Unsuccessful Attempts on Platform 8
Petrobras contracted with UTC Engineering firm for the replacement of the gate valve on Platform 8 which is located in the Campos Basin off the shore of Rio de Janeiro. The spool has a unique flange angle and rotation where they experienced difficult interconnections at installation. Petrobras and UTC needed a full-proof solution after facing two unsuccessful attempts to install the main valve.

InteliSum’s LiDAR and Texel-Camera patented technology was able to capture strategic points on the platform and also accurately capture the angle and rotation of the newly fabricated valve.
Once captured the new valve was brought in virtually into the LD3 3D “as-built” data to test fit the design against the real world without having to shut down oil production, or experience another unsuccessful installation. InteliSum’s verification solution allowed a seamless replacement on the first try.
